Condom maker's marketing stunt puts condoms on women's faces on the subway - Mashable

A group of Chinese women caused a stir during a Beijing subway ride this month when they unwrapped packets of condoms and placed them on their faces, arms and dcolletage.

The women claimed they had chanced upon a new beauty hack, when horrified commuters started snapping pictures of them.

But they were justpart of a promotional stuntfrom a Chinese condom maker, which wanted to market its new ultra-thin condoms.

According to the maker, DaXiang Condom China, the lubricant in its condoms is supposed to be good for your skin. However, there is no science to back up this claim.

After the commotion they caused on the train, the scantily clad women got off a few stops later and stood around the platform area carrying signs that said: "DaXiang face masks."

The marketing gimmick has been criticised by Chinese netizens for its poor taste.

One Weibo User commented on the DaXiang's page: "Today's people will do anything for money."

Many have also called upon authorities to fine the condom company for this "immoral act."

Valparaiso eyes advertising on garbage trucks - Chicago Tribune

Valparaiso's garbage and recycling trucks could have advertising on them in the near future.

Late last week the Board of Works approved the purchase of two new trucks one for garbage and one for recycling that will be outfitted with brackets to hold advertising on both sides of the trucks.

Public Works Director Matt Evans said other municipalities have similar programs.

"I have been investigating ways to do that to our fleet," he said.

The matter is still under study, but he hopes the money would go toward purchasing new trucks and other department needs.

"Equipment is hard for us to find money for," Clerk-Treasurer Sharon Swihart said.

Evans said the average life of a refuse truck is seven years, and in the case of recycling trucks, the crushed glass cuts holes into the metal over time.

How much money the trucks could bring in depends on the time the trucks are on duty, the number of residents and similar factors.

Statewide, Marion, South Bend and Lafayette have similar advertising programs, and Lafayette is expected to bring in about $2 million over five years.

"I don't know how that compares to ours, but it's an opportunity," Evans said.

An advertising program will also depend on the City Council's approval and state laws. The city currently sells ad space on the buses making up the city's V-Line and the commuter Chicago Dash line.

After trade-ins and a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the $391,836 cost for the trucks will be reduced to $296,826, Evans said.

Also at the meeting, the board approved an award for of bids for the Calumet Avenue and Burlington Beach projects that will begin in May and be "substantially complete" by Nov. 1.

The Indiana Department of Transportation received six bids March 15, the lowest being Dyer Construction at $2.03 million and below the engineering estimate, city engineer Tim Burkman said.

Valparaiso needs to approve the bid, too, and it will pay 20 percent of costs after a Surface Transportation Program grant through INDOT.

The Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission would pay Valparaiso's $406,285 share.

The project is the reconstruction of the Calumet and Burlington Beach intersection, adding turn lanes through widening and a new traffic signal, along with curbs, gutters and storm sewers.

It also includes a pathway on the north side of Burlington Beach east to Indiana 49.

At Indiana 49, Burlington Beach will be widened and get curb, gutter and drainage improvements.

Great Advice For Common Web Design Problems

Some people may know the basics of web design but don't understand the differences that make a site that is usable on mobile platforms or apps to accompany the site for users on the go. If this is something you are struggling with, read these tips. These simple recommendations will help you design a modern website.

Don't neglect cascading style sheets. Using a style sheet makes it easy to give all pages of your site the same look and feel. It also reduces the file size of your pages, as the CSS file can be accessed once on the server and then from the user's local cache thereafter.

Include an easy way for visitors to search your site content. People who are seeking something in particular are bound to be interested in finding a search box upon reaching your site. They may just move on to another website immediately if you lack one. Put the search box in the upper right hand corner of the page because this is usually the first place people look for one.

To help your website visitors find their way home on your site, always include a link to your homepage on each page of your site. Having a home page link that is visible allows your reader to easily make their way back to starting point. Your visitors might get frustrated and leave your site altogether if you do not have a home page link.

Give some thought to the background of your website. Can make text hard to read as well, although backgrounds with moving GIF views can be great. Choose backgrounds that coordinate with your site, rather than clashing with it, and your message will be much more clear to your visitors.

Learn how to use colors to influence your readers. Every color has a certain feeling that it can induce. For example, using black backgrounds or images could bring up feelings of depression and darkness. The use of a color like yellow is associated with happiness. Take the time to read up on the psychology of colors when determining your site's color scheme.

Make text easy to read if you want your site visitors to spend as much time as possible on your site. One of the most common design mistakes is using graphic backgrounds with patterns or dark colors combine this with equally dark text and you have a recipe for disaster. Unless the text is clear and easy to read, your site will not be a success.

To help you design a website that is free of clutter, do not include any scrolling text on your site. Websites that have things constantly moving back and forth on the screen is really distracting to the visitor. Not only is this distracting and annoying, it screams unprofessional and will cause your visitors to leave quickly.

If you're trying to do well with web design, HTML5 is what you're going to need to learn about. If you don't know HTML5, you will have a great deal of work ahead of you, so start learning about it now.

Keep your education ongoing. If you stop learning new things, you may find yourself falling behind the pack with your designs, Websites are constantly changing, every day, and. Try to convince yourself to learn one new thing each day, be it programming a new background, or a simple HTML setup.

Site maps are an excellent piece of technology that allow users and search engines to get a better view of your site's layouts and functions without extra work. Include a link to your sitemap from the homepage and leave it as simple as possible. The sitemap doesn't need fancy graphics or fonts, just layout your website and update it when needed.

Keep the levels of literacy in mind when you are writing your content. Realize that most people aren't as educated and sophisticated enough to understand all that fancy writing, and that might turn them off and leave your site. To build an audience, your visitors need to be able to comprehend the information you're publishing.

Put together a nice page about you or your organization and title it "About" or "About Us." A lot of websites containuninformative and ugly, generic "About Us" pages. Crank it up a bit! Provide some insight for your visitors tell them why and how you built your site and what goals you want it to reach for your company.

Understand that when you first start out that it's going to take time for your site to become popular. You can try your best to generate as much traffic to your site as possible but make sure that you know what to expect so that you can continuously adapt your strategies accordingly.

If you keep learning as you are designing a website, that will be a benefit to you. Once you have tackled one site design aspect, move on to the next one and master that one, too. You'll be rewarded with information that you need to create dozens of sites once you learn it, even though this could slow down the process of site-building.

It is better to start your website with a small amount of good content. Don't do more than you can handle or you might wind up posting stuff that doesn't make sense.

When you decide to build a site, make it revolve around the needs of your target audience. You want things like your font, overall and layout theme to align with the interests of those who are going to visit your site, so that they are interested in coming back to your site after their initial visit.

A great web design tip with regards to choosing your domain name is to choose a domain name that does not contain a dash (-). Sites with dashes are often not entered when people are trying to visit your site so avoid and try them at all cost so you don't lost any traffic.

You've read the advice here and are ready to put it into action, so get ready to design your site! Start by sketching out a design and making lists of the content you'll need and you'll have your website online in no time.

Once you master these few techniques, you can then begin to expand your knowledge base and ultimately expand the scope of your designs.

How To Rank Higher In Search Engine Results

seo dallas

Have you ever wanted to start up a web business but just didn't know how to effectively market your site and its products? If so, you're definitely in good company. Millions of people are looking to get involved in web business, and every single one of them would do well to read these SEO tips.

When setting up your site for SEO, keep an eye on keyword density. You want to have your major keywords at about 3 to 7 percent of the total text. Anything higher than about 10 percent starts to look suspicious to the search engine, as if you are using keyword stuffing to boost page rank.

Avoid using keywords that are of no relevance to your website or product. When you do, web crawler bots may mistake your website as spam and blacklist your site from the search results. On the other hand, be sure to include all relevant keywords on your home page as this is the page you should want your customers to see first.

Search engine optimization is a tool to improve a web site's visibility in search engine results. An optimized web site will help to keep your product or service in the first page or two of search engine results. After all, a web site doesn't do much good if no one can find it.

Add descriptive text to all hyperlinks that explains what the linked content is about. This makes it easier for search and visitors engines to understand where the link takes them. The link should include keywords that describe the content on the page so that search engines will associate that page with those keywords.

Write for your readers, not for the search engine. Search engines are more intelligent these days than ever thought possible. They can actually judge content based on the reactions of a genuine human emotion. A search engine will realize what you are doing and rank your site lower if you repeat keywords too many times.

Using a specific keyword too often will actually count against you if you are trying to maximize the frequency of search hits. Search engines will be looking for keywords that are inserted in natural language. Therefore, you will have to not only use your keyword frequently, but the content must make sense.

Find your keywords. Search through other sites to find out what keywords will be most likely to link back to your website. Use this information to plan the keywords you will use to increase volume to your site. The better matches you have, the more likely you will be to increase visitors.

Instead of creating several new links every day that will not attract any traffic, spend time building an online network and look for a quality link that will redirect a lot of visitors to your website. You should do your best to get featured guest posts or to comment on popular sites.

If you bid for keywords on a pay-per-click search engine with an eye towards increasing your page rank, stay away from licensed trademarks and copyrighted product names. Their owners will not appreciate you taking advantage of them, even though these can be popular search terms. If you have an arrangement with the owners - and double-check their assent to this particular usage, only use such terms.

Including "breadcrumb" links on your website's pages can improve navigation - and search engine performance, too. "Breadcrumbs" are text links that they're here show visitors their current location in a site's hierarchy, e.g., "home >> products >> boats >> inflatable." Not only will your website visitors appreciate the assistance, search engines will also pick up a few more possible search terms when they index "breadcrumbs".

If you are creating pages in languages other than English, include the language meta tag in your page. The tag allows search engines to know what language your site is written in and including it can help boost your rankings for searches for your keyword that are in your chosen language.

Search engine results are directly linked to the keywords in your website, but knowing where to place the keywords is critical to optimizing your SEO. In addition to placing them in your content, you should also use them in your page titles, image , captions and URLsmost importantly, your title tag and page header.

Don't overuse header tags to try to increase your search engine ranking. Use the H1 tag only once on your page, near the top. Then use the H2 tag a few times, 2-3 maximum. Lastly, use the H3 tag for the least important titles on the page. As long as you stick to these rules, feel free to fill your titles with keyword-rich phrases!

Make sure the title you give to a web page is relevant to the content. If it matches the content of the page, you can also include some keywords in it. If it is judged as relevant, search engine spiders will index your page: a good title will influence this decision.

Select 5-20 keywords or phrases that are related, and focus on them throughout your site. Using more than 20 makes you spread your keyword ranking for search engines too thin. When you determine the best keywords and phrases, you can strive to "own" the searches for those terms by using between this range. This increases both the number of visitors to your site and the quality of them.

Include links to your http://www.microsoft.com/web/seo/ site as part of your online signature if you are a respected and well-known presence on online discussion boards or communities. Of course, this technique is only effective if you are viewed favorably in the community, diligently follow all forum rules, and make valuable contributions to the larger discussion.

Don't ignore long-tail keywords. when optimizing your content, long-tail keywords could grab you traffic faster than your primary keywords because they have far less competition. Do your research and find keyword combinations that are related to your main keywords in any of a number of ways. Brainstorm all the different reasons why people would be typing your keywords and research related issues, ideas and problems to find new long-tail keywords to use.

Using these simple tips to improve your website's search ratings through Search Engine Optimization will revolutionize your website. Remember to be patient and stick with the strategies, and soon you'll see your site traffic skyrocket as more people discover you through search engines and become regular viewers or customers.
